A detailed note on the back of the painting indicates that it was done by Bertia Carpenter Davis in the early 1860's. There is no indication of where it was done but our guess is New England. Notice the glass compote, which is probably Sandwich circa 1840-70, and the mid-century marble top table. The composition and vibrant colors are particularly charming. The painting is mounted on board with a bit of inpainting at the top. The frame is period.
