This early Federal card table is identical to one in the
Colonial Williamsburg collection that is pictured on page 243
of "Southern Furniture 1680-1830" by Hurst & Prown.
Both tables have the very rare feature of a hidden secret drawer
in the back rail. Theirs is missing both the drawer and its
runners. Ours has a replacement drawer and retains its original
drawer runners. Ours also retains all of its original corner
brackets in perfect condition. Both tables were made in Newport,
RI in the 1790-1800 period. Both the design and craftsmanship
are superb and the mahogany is of excellent quality. The carved
details on the lower edge of the apron and the front edge of
the top board really enhance the appearance of the table. The
table retains an old finish and exceptional color.
Dimensions are: H. 28 1/2"
W. 34 1/2" D. 15 1/2"
$ 16,500.
