A desirable set of 4 squareback Hepplewhite side chairs
of a type made in Boston in the 1790-1800 period. They are made
of mahogany with inset panels of figured mahogany veneer in the
crest rails. Note the interesting carved elements on the back
splats but, more importantly, how the fine reeding from top to
bottom unifies the design visually to make them so attractive.
In excellent original structural condition with a nice old finish
and good color.
Would nicely complement the set of 8 Salem chairs to make
an awesome set of 12 !
These chairs are identical to one pictured in "American
Furniture, The Federal Period" by Montgomery, which is
the Winterthur collection, on page 83.
Dimensions are: H. 36 1/4"
- $ 8500.
