- This sofa is the only classical American example we are
aware of that is less than five feet in length, an incredibly
small size. In addition, the carving of the choice solid mahogany
is exceptional. It undoubtedly was a custom order, probably by
one of Boston's premier cabinetmakers, Isaac Vose or Emmons &
Archibald. It dates to circa 1815-1820. It is shown in the frame
before upholstering to indicate its totally original structural
condition. It is presently covered in a beautiful reproduction
period moire pattern fabric.
