This exceptional piece of neoclassical furniture is undoubtedly
a product of Duncan Phyfe's workshop. Phyfe was New York City's
premier cabinetmaker in the early 19th century and this example
was made circa 1815. The mahogany
veneers were the finest available and the design and execution
the best. In addition this dressing bureau is in perfect original
condition including all
the original brass embellishments, drawer pulls, the mirror glass
and its backing, and it retains an old finish. Even the patina
on the brasses has
not been touched by polishing so that the original gilt patination
is still present. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a choice
Phyfe piece in
exceptional original condition.
