Robert Mussey's book "The Furniture Masterworks of
John & Thomas Seymour" illustrates an identical dining
table on page 326. These dining tables are quite rare with all
known examples coming from Boston circa 1810. They are incredibly
practical to use. Folded up against a wall they take up very
little room. But with the drop leaves up they form a table that
seats up to 8. The two leaf supports on each side easily roll
out to support the top. All three sections of the top are single
mahogany boards. Note how the reeding of the top, pedestals and
legs leads to a beautifully integrated design. This dining table
is in excellent original structural condition
including the original brass casters.
Dimensions are: H. 28 3/4" L.
53 1/2" W. 62 3/8" (only 16
1/4" closed)
