- Although this is an assembled set, it is difficult to
discern the slight differences between them. All are of mahogany
with beautifully carved backs and graceful square tapered molded
legs. They were made in Salem, Massachusetts in the 1790's. They
are structurally very strong, in an old finish with great color.
Period American sets of chairs of this size from this early Federal
period are rarely encountered any longer. A similar chair is
pictured in "American Furniture, The Federal Period"
by Montgomery, which is the collection at Winterthur, on page
84."
