VERY DESIRABLE SET OF EIGHT SALEM MAHOGANY HEPPLEWHITE SIDE CHAIRS

Very Desirable Set Of 8 Salem Mahogany Hepplewhite Side Chairs (F765)

Although this is an assembled set, it is difficult to discern the slight differences between them. All are of mahogany with beautifully carved backs and graceful square tapered molded legs. They were made in Salem, Massachusetts in the 1790's. They are structurally very strong, in an old finish with great color. Period American sets of chairs of this size from this early Federal period are rarely encountered any longer. A similar chair is pictured in "American Furniture, The Federal Period" by Montgomery, which is the collection at Winterthur, on page 84."

Dimensions are: height approximately 35 1/2"

$ 24,500.
