This is a form of furniture for which few American Federal
period
examples are known. A literature search turned up no example
in any public collection. The only other one I know of, I owned
many years ago and it had major restoration. This knee-hole desk
was made in New York City circa 1810-15. The quality and design
are the finest as are the choice mahogany woods and veneers.
It opens to a beautifully finished slant surface desk. It is
in original structural condition with minor old veneer restoration.
Dimensions are: W. 36" H. 30" D. 20"
$ 9500.
