This visually impressive inlaid mahogany Hepplewhite secretary
desk was made in the Concord, New Hampshire area circa 1800.
Note especially the beautifully matched mahogany veneers complemented
by additional mahogany veneer crossbanding for accent. The individualistic
patera and broken panel inlays on the pediment are one of the
characteristics of Concord manufacture along with the unique
shape of the apron and the unique escutcheons. This secretary
is in excellent overall original structural condition. The lower
drawer brasses and the finials are replacements. The interior
has been repainted blue to match the original blue under a later
yellow paint. It may be possible for someone to scrape down to
the original blue, although we weren't able to.
Dimensions are: H. 80" (+ finials)
W. 42" D. 20"
$ 28,000.
