- The choicest mahogany veneers and peerless craftsmanship
allow one to attribute this recamier to the master, Duncan Phyfe,
New York City's premier cabinetmaker in the early nineteenth
century. It is in the Restauration style which dates it to the
later 1830's. Note the extra little details like the C-shaped
molding on the front foot and the turned medallion on the crest
rail of the back that help to elevate this design to a higher
level. The proportions are perfect as one expects in a Phyfe
piece. Because the back is also upholstered this recamier may
be used in the center of a room as well as against a wall.
