Very few American flat top desks are known. This mahogany
example was made in Boston circa 1830. It is signed by the maker
"Stephen Smith, 51 Cornhill, Boston". It is a very
useful size, being six feet in length, and has two long drawers
below to hold papers, etc. It is very sturdy, standing on four
substantial turned solid mahogany legs. Amazingly, it retains
its original gilt tooled leather top and original turned mahogany
knobs. The price includes some minor veneer restoration and polishing.
Dimensions are: L. 72" H. 30 1/2" D. 38 1/2"
$ 9500.
