Armchairs from this period are quite scarce. This one is distinguished by the beautifully modeled arms and finely carved crest rail. Made in Boston circa 1815-20. Structurally original and solid, it has been newly polished and reupholstered. It would work well with the other Boston classical armchair in the Gallery.
